The 34 Chichibu Fudasho Temples What does Fudasho mean? Fudasho are the selected temples of Kannon Reijos (Holy Place of the Goddess of Mercy) enshrining the Kannon statues. Fudasho's name originates from the ancient custom that during a pilgrimage worshippers nailed a "fuda" (wooden plate) to the pillars and other parts of Kannon shrine as evidence of their worship.
Along with the Fudasho temples of Bando and Saigoku, the Chichibu Fudasho temples have a long history as one of the 100 Kannon Reijos of Japan. |
